1. Settlement Event

Thursday 20 August 2015 (3:00pm – 4:30pm)

Introduction

The ‘Stitch in Time’ project delivered its first reminiscent event on the settlement theme on Thursday 20th August 2015 at Brierfield People’s Centre. The purpose of the event was to bring together Asian heritage elders that settled in Nelson, Brierfield and Colne areas of Pendle. The event was opened by his worship the Lord Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Nawaz Ahmed followed by a presentation by Fiona McIntyre Community Heritage Manager, Libraries, Museums, Culture and Registrars, Lancashire County Council.

Furthermore, the introductions gave an overview of the project activities including future reminiscent events and the first Trip to Bradford Industrial Museum arranged for the 26th August 2015.


Round Table discussions

The event was attended by 27 local Asian heritage elders and was supported by 5 volunteers. The format for the event included presentations by guests followed by round table discussions and lasted for 2 hours
Each person on the table was asked to share their story of their early memories of settling in Pendle. Volunteers were at hand to take notes and agree a story that will be recorded

Findings

The volunteers were able to identify a number of stories that will be recorded by the project. All the relevant individuals will be contacted to attend recording sessions at Brierfield People’s Centre.

This first event was a real successful with so much information shared between individuals and people showed keenness to get involved in future events. Attendees registered for the trip to Bradford Industrial Museum and were looking forward to the visit.
